| | What's your style?
Such a simple question, yet one of the hardest for a photographer to honestly answer.
Barking back a generic response really doesn’t answer the question properly. Photojournalist? Maybe a little. Unique? Yes, but I think everyone’s unique in their own way. Candid, different, spontanious, tradational, artistic, ummm, yes?
I’m inspired by finding beauty in the simpliest of things. I believe there is element of wonder in everything, and that you just need to find that perfect angle to capture it. Is there one word to describe that? A dreamer? A romantic? I haven’t found that perfect word yet.
I’m truely in a different world when I look through my lens. I’m not there anymore, the world fades away. All that exists is what I see before me. I hunt for that perfect angle, that great shot. Anyone can have a million photos in their portfolio. I’m looking for the one that connects with people. You have to stop and look at it. Why? Because it’s beautiful. It’s amazing. It’s captivating. There’s just something about it that makes you think, or laugh, or cry. If it doesn’t bring out an emotion, then what good is it?
Ask yourself, why do you want a photo? It’s a memory. It should show others why you’re special, why you’re unique. Is this an image for others to experience? Given that, I believe the styles don’t really matter, only the memories you’re capturing do. |
| About Bill.
I've served as creative director, a designer, and a photographer for the last 17 years of my professional life. Prior to that, I grew up with a camera in my hand. Two generations of lifelong, Eastman Kodak employees made sure that I knew how to handle a camera, and what it meant to really take great pictures. Yes, this is the old kodak logo, but since it is plastered on almost everything I grew up with, including drinking glasses, ashtrays, plates, and yes, even toilet paper olders, it is the only logo I care to recognize! The new one just doesn't have the same impact.
I won my first award when I was 11 or 12, in a family of Kodak employees competation. Since then, I strived to learn what makes a great image.
Have I stopped learning? No. I don't believe you can ever know enough. Just as you get comfortable, a new camera, a new software, or a drastic change in technology pushes you onward. I thought I would never give up shooting film. Times change quickly.
I've traveled the country as a designer and creative director for large scale tradeshows and special events. Not only as a designer and supervisor, but as a photographer. Capturing the look of the event, and the work that went into creating each one. The more I shot, the more I knew that was all I wanted to do.
Today, I am a full time, professional photographer. I specialize in people. Models, actors, musicians, brides, or anyone else looking for something new and creative. Showing you the way want to look, or the way you really are.
Bill currently shoots with Canon Equipment, the 5D Mark II and the 5D. |
